After two weeks in detention, Fayose regains freedom from EFCC custody (Photo)

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has been released from prison after meeting his bail condition. His lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, a senior advocate of Nigeria said “yes he has been released. He has perfected his bail conditions and was released this evening. I was with him and he was in a very high spirit, vowing to fight till this clueless administration is voted out of power". Fayose’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, wrote, “Fayose just regained his freedom. He left the Federal High Court, Ikoyi a few minutes ago. We will meet EFCC at the court from November 19. Thank you Nigerians.” Fayose was arraigned at a High Court in Lagos after he presented himself at the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja. He was later granted a N50 million bail, but failed to meet the conditions on Friday.

'Our democracy is improving steadily, that's why I emphasize free and fair elections at all times' - President Buhari

President Buhari in Abuja said Nigeria’s democracy is steadily improving with deeper understanding of the culture and tenets among the people, and strengthening of the institutions that guarantee free and fair elections. Receiving Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency Rt. Hon. Julie Payette, at the Presidential Villa, President Buhari said he saw the evolving strength of democracy in the country by contesting for elections three times before winning at the fourth trial in 2015. President Buhari told the Governor General that Nigeria had been learning from the mistakes of those who practiced democracy for a longer period, and by looking inward at its own peculiarities. “I emphasize free and fair elections at all times,’’ he said. The President said the bilateral relations with Canada will continue to be improved considering the huge interest of the country in Nigeria and growing economic ties, with many Nigerians schooling and working in the country. ''Nigeria has left the era where votes were awarded and the cheated are told to go to court'' President Buhari says

President Buhari today said that Nigeria has left the era in which democratic norms are brazenly subverted, with votes awarded to those favoured by the government in power and those whose mandates were stolen are told to go to court if they were not happy. President Buhari stated this while receiving members of the Joint United Nations, African Union and ECOWAS Good Offices Mission on Elections in the state house Abuja. "I am highly qualified to talk on this, having ended in Supreme Court three times, after participating in elections with disputed results. Where will a man looking for where his next meal would come from, have money to hire lawyers, particularly senior advocates?" the President said. He assured his guests that the 2019 polls would be free and fair  "The President has only one vote, governors have a vote each, just like anybody else. Let the people vote for whoever they choose, without their will being tampered with." he said...

Real Madrid   have sacked manager   Julen Lopetegui   after just four months in charge of the Spanish club. His dismissal comes just a day after Real Madrid suffered a humiliating 5 - 1 defeat in El Clasico clash against Barcelona.  The club's Castilla coach,   Santiago Solari , will take over on an interim basis starting on Tuesday. A club statement read: "Real Madrid's board met today on 29 Oct 2018 and has agreed to end the contract linking coach Julen Lopetegui with the club. The club thanks Julen Lopetegui and all his staff for their effort and t...

Government should deduct tithes from workers' salaries and forward to church - Archbishop says

A Catholic Archbishop of Kampala, Uganda, has suggested that the central government should deduct 10 per cent from the monthly salaries of workers and forward directly to the church as tithe. Most Reverend Cyprian Kizito Lwanga made this statement during Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Rubaga, adding that non-payment of tithes affects the development of the church. He said, according to Citizen TV: Whenever we ask for tithe, everyone gives only what they have at that time. But the Bible says a tenth of whatever you earn belongs to the church. Give me your support as I front this proposal because it is good for us. Aren’t you tired of putting money in the baskets all the time? Lwanga pointed out that in Germany, citizens who are registered as Catholics, Protestants or Jews have a church tax (Kirchensteuer) where 8 to 9 per cent of their annual income is deducted. The church tax is collected by the government and channeled to the respective religious organizations. He said:...

The lady  Rehema Kabayana , 24, from Uganda allegedly used a four-inch knife to cut off the penis of her boyfriend Anthony Sekawa , 28 over an alleged affair. Why Dancing Is the Best Thing You Can Do For Your Body

Dance floors tend to be sweaty places for a reason. All of those shimmies and shakes burn energy like you wouldn’t believe—and come with many other surprising health benefits, too. When you cut a rug, you can expend more than 300 calories every half-hour, according to a report from the University of Brighton in the UK. That meets or exceeds the amount of energy you burn during an easy run or swim, the report shows. Even relatively tame forms of dance burn about the same number of calories as cycling. Dancing demands a lot of energy output because it involves “movement in all directions,” says Nick Smeeton, a principal lecturer at the University of Brighton and coauthor of that report. While running, swimming and other propulsive forms of physical activity use rhythm and momentum to keep you moving, “there is a lot of accelerating and decelerating in dancing, which the body is less able to do in an energy efficient way,” Smeeton says. If running is ...

Dancers as Athletes

The human body is an amazing machine and in everyday life we use merely a fraction of the muscles and movement permutations available to us.  Contemporary dance is one dance genre that constantly explores the movements of the body striving for innovation and originality. As knowledge about the body increases, dance training improves and the competition for excellence paired with innovation is greater, dancers bodies are pushed to the limits.  The physical ability and disciplines expected of a dancer can be easily related to those of an athlete and increasingly, dance critics are describing dancers as athletic. So, can we consider dancers as athletes?  Why might some people in the dance profession and in sport be unwillingly to accept this concept? Firstly, let us consider the definition of athlete; a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength; a participant in a sport, exercise, or game requiring physical skill....

Why Is Dancing So Good for Your Brain?

Dancers maximize cognitive function and muscle memory through practice . When was the last time you went out dancing? I make a habit of going to my local dance club called the Atlantic House at least once a week. I have been dancing to DJ David LaSalle’s music in the same spot in front of a huge speaker since 1988. Some of my friends make fun of me for ‘chasing butterflies’ and acting like a fool on the dance floor. I don’t care. I know that dancing and spontaneously trying to spin like Michael Jackson is good for my brain. While researching this blog, I pulled up some old footage of Michael Jackson spinning. He was an incredible dancer. Please take a minute to watch Michael Jackson dance  here . In this video you can see how practicing a dance move like ‘spinning’ from  childhood  reshapes the cerebellum ( down brain ) and allows a dancer to create superfluidity and not get dizzy while rotating quickly. Professional dancers don...

Resolution, The Place, London, review: Ranges from navel-gazing to theatrical flair New Year, new year’s  Resolution . Now in its 27th year, The Place’s festival of new dance is the UK’s biggest, with 78 companies appearing over six weeks. Perhaps characteristically, this performance ranged from navel-gazing to theatrical flair. The flair came from #PPL Dance’s  Al-Col-Hol , a punchy blend of street dance and people-watching. Dani Harris-Walters’ choreography uses tight, fast footwork and nicely-observed behaviour – it’s funny, but it avoids drunk dance clichés. Instead, characters lose their self-consciousness, or painfully find it again.  A finger wagged in over-emphatic argument becomes a tick-tock beat; insecurities bubble up, so that expansive moves suddenly become pinched. Michael Starke looks like a demonic influence, twisting and prodding; in one sequence, his shadow looms over the other dancers. The show leans too heavily on its framing devices, and...
